Lifevine Description
WINEMAKING NOTES: Chardonnay was harvested at full ripeness, then pressed by tank press to express the most delicate juice. New juice was settled overnight cold and racked off heavy solids to a stainless-steel fermenter. Juice was fermented cool at 65 degrees with ICV OKAY yeast to yield bright floral and ester notes. New wine was left in contact with the yeast lees for 3 months (sur lie aging) to help build body and some complexity. No malolactic or oak contact. The finished wine was simply filtered clear to bottle.
INTAGE NOTES: After an unusually dry winter with only half the normal rainfall, bud break was a bit early in the Lodi area. Some early frosts reduced the crop in many varieties and led to an earlier than normal harvest. The summer growing period was modest to warm punctuated by several heat spikes that culminated in a mid-August triple digit spell which is when a freak lightning storm ignited the LNU complex fire. Grapes in eastern Lodi saw some days of poor air quality but were 70 miles removed from the fires, which had no effect on them. The lower crop loads coupled with small berry size brought on an early harvest of very high-quality fruit with concentrated colors and flavor. Those grapes that escaped fire damage made some of the best wines of the decade

TASTING NOTES: This Chardonnay presents a light gold hue with star bright clarity and brilliance. In the glass, aromas of lemon meringue, orange blossom and peach fade into subtle hints of verbena and cinnamon. On the palate, lemon pastry and white peach mingle with delicate herbs in this dry wine. The texture is light but round, and the finish transitions to the delicate floral notes with a mineral core. Enjoy well-chilled.
