Savory plums, roasted sesame, oranges and hints of tar and meaty spices on the nose, leading to a svelte, medium-bodied palate with structured, frosted tannins that add grip to the long, savory finish. Drink or hold.
Producer Notes
Warm and pleasantly balanced wine combines power and elegance. The nose shows ripe fruit flavors of red berries, licorice and leather. This wine goes well with rich dishes, red meat and cheese.
With the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone mentioned on the front label, the La Colombina 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows a flavor profile that ties into the added intensity and dark fruit associated with this warmer side of the appellation. The wine shows power and textural richness; however, it never feels too ripe or heavy. Instead, it offers a rather subdued interpretation of the vintage without pushing the boundaries in any particular direction. The tannins are dry and stemmy at this young stage.
Aromas of violet, scorched earth and cedar lead the nose. The solid palate offers blackberry jam, licorice and toasted hazelnut alongside firm tannins. Drink 2023–2029.
